About
A small operation, on purpose
Owner-run from Edmonton with a couple of part-time helpers, a maximum of 13 riders per tour, and the same person answering your email, driving the van and setting out the snacks.
Our Story
Owner-run since the first borrowed van
Mountain Madness started with a borrowed ten-passenger Sprinter van, electrical-tape decals and a ski trip to Marmot Basin. After a few years of trying everything from wine tours to race support, the first supported cycling tour for an Edmonton bike club made it obvious: the Icefields Parkway is a road built for bicycles, and riders just need someone to carry the bags, book the beds and keep the snacks coming.
Ben Johnson, originally from Australia and a former competitive rower, runs every tour himself with a couple of part-time helpers. Before Edmonton he climbed the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, Elbrus and Aconcagua and rode the French Alps and the Dolomites. On tour he is first-aid trained, carries an AED and a satellite communicator in the parks, and, as guests keep writing, thinks of everything.
"Ben is the best mountain concierge! All details are taken care of with care and a friendly smile. So fun we have taken this trip 3 times."
Guides are first-aid trained, carry an AED and satellite communication in the parks, and every rider gets a two-way radio.

Who rides with us
Most riders are between 40 and 60, about half women and half men, and many are on their first multi-day tour. Fitness varies a lot; the support van and the e-bikes are what make the two long days work for everyone.
How we support the ride
A Mercedes Sprinter van and a custom enclosed trailer carry the bikes, luggage, water tank, food and tools. There is no cell coverage between Jasper and Lake Louise, so the van carries a satellite communicator and the group shares two-way radios.
Media and tour operators
We work with receptive tour operators and travel agents on net rates, and we can supply rights-free photos and written content from the parkway for articles and guides. Get in touch for the tour operator information package.
